The late Kim Sae Ron’s final project, the music film Guitar Man, has released its original soundtrack titled A World Without Pain, stirring emotions among fans. The film, set to premiere on May 30, 2025, marks the actress’s last work, with director Lee Sun Jung sharing heartfelt memories of her vibrant presence on set.
Film and OST Details
Guitar Man is a music film centered on an underground band named Volcano. It follows a talented guitarist, played by Lee Sun Jung, who joins the band and forms a compelling relationship with the female lead, Yoo Jin, portrayed by Kim Sae Ron. Filming wrapped in November 2024, and the movie is now in post-production, preparing for its theatrical release at the end of May 2025.
The film’s main OST, A World Without Pain, was released on April 28, 2025, through a 4-minute-27-second music video on Prossima Music’s YouTube channel. Written and composed by Lee Sun Jung, who also co-directed and produced the film, the song captures deep emotions. In the music video, Kim Sae Ron showcases her acting range, expressing happiness, sorrow, and fulfillment, leaving a lasting impression on viewers.
“She brought so much bright energy and passion to the set. I truly hoped for her to make a grand comeback,” Lee Sun Jung said, reflecting on Kim Sae Ron’s dedication.
“I wish she finds happiness in a world without pain, just like the title of the OST,” he added, connecting the song’s theme to his hopes for the late actress.
Director’s Vision and Donation Pledge
Lee Sun Jung, CEO of Sungwon Pharmaceutical and leader of the Lee Sun Jung Band, took on multiple roles in Guitar Man, including investor, producer, co-director, and lead actor. His involvement reflects his commitment to the project, which was initially helmed by director Shin Jae Ho before Lee Sun Jung took over. The film transitioned from a low-budget musical to a standard commercial production, aiming for broader appeal.
In a meaningful gesture, Lee Sun Jung announced that all proceeds from the Guitar Man OST will be donated to the Korea Life Respect Hope Center, a suicide prevention organization. This decision honors Kim Sae Ron, who faced significant challenges following a DUI incident in May 2022 that halted her career. The donation underscores the team’s desire to support a cause tied to mental health, resonating with the OST’s title and message.
Kim Sae Ron’s Legacy
Kim Sae Ron, who passed away on February 16, 2025, at age 24, was a beloved South Korean actress who began her career at nine. She gained fame through films like A Brand New Life (2009) and The Man from Nowhere (2010), earning a Best New Actress nomination at the Baeksang Arts Awards. Her roles in dramas such as Can You Hear My Heart (2011), The Queen’s Classroom (2013), and Hi! School: Love On (2014) showcased her versatility. Her first adult lead role came in Secret Healer (2016), solidifying her status as a rising star.
Her career faced a setback after a drunk driving incident in May 2022 in Gangnam, Seoul, where she crashed into a transformer, causing a power outage. She was fined 20 million KRW (approximately $14,500) in April 2023 and withdrew from projects like Trolley and had scenes edited out of Bloodhounds (2023). Despite these challenges, Kim Sae Ron was determined to return to acting. She changed her name to Kim Ah Rim in late 2024, preparing for a fresh start, and expressed excitement about Guitar Man, even planning to open a café.
“She said she’d make money acting again after making a comeback with the film Guitar Man. She was preparing to open a café, while also getting ready to return to the entertainment industry,” a close acquaintance shared with Osen.
“There were no signs at all, and I told her to call me if things got tough,” they added, expressing shock at her sudden passing.
Production Journey
Guitar Man faced its own hurdles during production. Initially directed by Shin Jae Ho, the project saw a directorial change in October 2024, with Lee Sun Jung stepping in. Filming began in April 2024 and concluded in November, with Kim Sae Ron spotted on set in October, marking her return after a two-year hiatus. The film, supported by Lee Sun Jung’s investment, evolved into a commercial project, moving away from its original low-budget roots.
Shin Jae Ho, who directed part of the film, praised Kim Sae Ron’s professionalism.
“I first met Kim Sae Ron during the script reading for Guitar Man. She was so bright and down-to-earth. After the reading, we went out for a meal together and had a great conversation,” Shin Jae Ho told Hankook Ilbo.
“She was full of energy. Even though she had been acting for a long time, she was incredibly professional. On set, she didn’t feel like a young actress; she had the presence of a senior colleague,” he added.

Besides Guitar Man, Kim Sae Ron completed another project, Everyday We Are, a romance drama adapted from a webtoon. Filmed in 2021, it stars Kim Sae Ron as Yeo-ul, a basketball-loving high school student, alongside Lee Chae Min as Ho-su. Initially planned as a seven-episode series, it faced delays due to post-production issues and Kim Sae Ron’s DUI incident. It is now set to release as a feature-length film in September 2025, though no exact date is confirmed. Director Kim Min-jae is finalizing edits, ensuring the project honors Kim Sae Ron’s legacy.
