)

Team Bunnies, the dedicated fan group of NewJeans, has intensified its legal efforts to shield the K-pop group from harmful online content, filing new complaints and advancing ongoing investigations as of April 2025.

Legal Actions Gain Momentum

On April 25, 2025, Team Bunnies announced they filed additional lawsuits and complaints targeting malicious posts across platforms like Instiz, Theqoo, DC Inside, and FM Korea. These posts included false information, defamation, racial discrimination, and sexual harassment aimed at NewJeans members Minji, Hanni, Danielle, Haerin, and Hyein.

The fan group has been proactive in monitoring online communities. They collect evidence from user submissions and their own surveillance to build cases. This latest wave of complaints builds on their ongoing campaign to protect the group.

Progress was also made on earlier complaints filed on April 11, 2025. An investigator has been assigned to the case, and authorities have issued warrants to identify the individuals behind the harmful posts. Responses to these warrants are now being processed, marking a step toward holding perpetrators accountable.

Hello, this is Team Bunnies.
On April 25th (yesterday), we filed additional complaints and reports based on monitoring and user submissions regarding malicious posts — including false information, defamation, racial discrimination, and sexual harassment — that were circulated across various online communities and social media platforms such as Instiz, Theqoo, DC Inside, and FM Korea.
Furthermore, regarding the complaints filed on April 11th, an investigator has now been assigned to the case. Warrants have been issued to obtain the personal information of the post authors across the relevant communities, and responses to these warrants are currently being received.
Thank you.

History of Legal Efforts

Team Bunnies has a track record of taking legal action to defend NewJeans. On December 13, 2024, and March 13, 2025, they filed complaints with the police, which are now under investigation. These cases target defamation and obstruction of business, with potential penalties including up to seven years in prison or fines of up to 50 million won (approximately $34,000 USD) for spreading false information.

The fan group has worked with multiple law firms, including Sejong Law Firm and Shin & Kim LLC, to strengthen their legal strategy. Since the Seoul Central District Court granted ADOR’s injunction on March 21, 2025, to maintain its status as NewJeans’ management agency, Team Bunnies has also consulted with the members’ parents and legal experts to navigate the complex situation.

In September 2024, Team Bunnies filed a complaint against HYBE, Source Music, and Dispatch journalists, accusing them of violating the Personal Information Protection Act and spreading defamatory content. They claimed HYBE leaked personal information, which was used to fuel malicious articles.

Ongoing Conflict with ADOR

The legal actions come amid a broader dispute between NewJeans and their agency, ADOR. On November 28, 2024, NewJeans announced the termination of their contract with ADOR, citing breaches of obligation. However, the Seoul Central District Court’s injunction on March 21, 2025, prohibited the group from engaging in independent activities, such as signing advertising contracts.

Despite the ruling, NewJeans, performing as NJZ, debuted a new song and sold merchandise at a Hong Kong event before announcing a temporary hiatus on March 23, 2025. Their Instagram account was renamed from NJZ to mhdhh (using the initials of the members’ names) on April 4, 2025, and all previous posts were deleted.

On April 9, 2025, ADOR issued a statement reinforcing its own legal actions against malicious posts, monitoring platforms like Naver, YouTube, and X. They reported one suspect arrested for creating and distributing deepfake videos of NewJeans. ADOR emphasized their commitment to protecting the group, despite the ongoing legal battle.

Fan Support and Public Reaction

Team Bunnies has rallied fans to report malicious content, creating a website for submissions and compiling thousands of posts for legal action. On February 3, 2025, they accused HYBE of spreading false information through media outlets, urging the company to address the contract dispute in court rather than through public opinion.

Fans have expressed mixed sentiments. Some praised Team Bunnies for their dedication:

Team Bunnies are so reliable..
Bunnies fighting, I’m sure you can see the light in this dark place

Others criticized the fan group for their own behavior, noting instances where Team Bunnies commented laughing emojis on ADOR’s legal notices or engaged in disputes with other fandoms.

I support legal action for malicious comments, but it’s funny seeing a fandom that leaves the most hateful comments posting about suing malicious comments.
Although it’s right to sue malicious comments that go over the line, they should stop laughing and leaving comments on other idol’s notices.

Challenges Involving Minors

The legal proceedings are complicated by the fact that Hyein and Haerin are minors, requiring parental consent for legal actions. Disagreements between Hyein’s parents over the contract termination led to a family court ruling granting the mother sole decision-making authority. This resolved earlier concerns raised during a March 2025 hearing about unified legal representation.

On April 11, 2025, NewJeans posted their first message to fans since their hiatus, acknowledging the challenging times and expressing gratitude for fan support. They shared that letters from fans provided comfort and motivation.

We are going through a tough time. But the music that we will make will be loved by Bunnies, music that will make Bunnies happy, and our time together will come.
We’ve received the letters you sent and they’ve moved us to tears. Each letter is precious, and we read them daily. Your words of comfort, encouragement and love have deeply touched us.

On April 26, 2025, ADOR issued a warning against Team Bunnies for promoting an Indomie Mi Goreng pop-up store event (scheduled for May 1-13, 2025, in Seoul) without authorization. Team Bunnies had shared photos of the postcard set and conducted a demand survey, causing confusion among fans. ADOR clarified they had not engaged with the fan group and urged fans to avoid sharing personal information.

The most recent update from Team Bunnies on April 26, 2025, reaffirms their commitment to protecting NewJeans. They continue to monitor platforms like Reddit, as noted in posts on X, and work with authorities to stop harassment. The fan group remains focused on ensuring a safe environment for NewJeans and their fans.
