K-pop girl group Weeekly has ended their five-year journey, leaving fans devastated. The group released a touching fan song, Daileee, as a farewell to their loyal supporters.

Group’s Journey Comes to an End

Weeekly, formed by IST Entertainment, debuted on June 30, 2020, with their mini-album We Are. The group originally had seven members: Lee Soojin, Shin Jiyoon, Monday, Park Soeun, Lee Jaehee, Jihan, and Zoa. They quickly gained attention with their youthful, high-teen concept and catchy songs like Tag Me (@Me) and After School. Their vibrant energy and synchronized performances made them a standout in fourth-generation K-pop.

In 2022, Shin Jiyoon left the group due to mental health struggles, reducing Weeekly to six members. Despite this change, the group continued to release music, including their fifth mini-album ColoRise in 2023 and their sixth EP Bliss in July 2024. However, their activities slowed after Bliss, with no major releases until the disbandment news.

On February 26, 2025, IST Entertainment announced that all six members had mutually terminated their contracts with the agency. The decision followed lengthy discussions about their future. The agency expressed gratitude to the members and fans, known as Daileee, for their support over the years.

“We sincerely thank all the fans who have shown unwavering love and support for Weeekly. After extensive discussions, we have mutually agreed to respect each other’s decisions and conclude their exclusive contracts.” — IST Entertainment

Fan Song Daileee Marks Emotional Farewell

The disbandment caught many by surprise, as Weeekly had been on a nearly year-long hiatus since their last release, Lights Out, in 2024. To provide closure, the members released a fan song titled Daileee through an external production company in early 2025. The song serves as a heartfelt thank-you to their fandom, also named Daileee, which means “without Daileee, Weeekly cannot exist.”

The release was bittersweet, with members addressing the sudden news. Jihan shared her hopes for fans to embrace the song and look forward to future meetings.

“I know that you guys were shocked, but I hope that you guys won’t be too upset at the sudden news. What else should I say? I hope you guys will love this song, and I hope that we can have good news such as being able to meet again, for you guys soon.”Jihan
“The members of Weeekly were caught by surprise with the disbandment and could not greet fans properly, so they released a fan song through a private company. Please listen to Daileee lots.” — Fan comment

Fans Express Grief and Support

The news left Daileee heartbroken, with many taking to social media to share their sorrow. Fans praised Weeekly for their unique high-teen concept and memorable songs, expressing frustration over the group’s short career.

“I feel so bad for Weeekly… They were one of the earlier 4th generation girl groups when they debuted in 2020. They were one of the few with the high teen concept.”
“I guess it’s already been five years… I really liked them. They should’ve kept that high teen concept.”
“These guys swept all the rookie awards, but they’re ruining it like this. It’s really a shame. The members had good looks and skills.”

Some fans speculated that IST Entertainment’s management, including a controversial concept change with Ven Para in 2022 and the agency’s acquisition by Beyond Music in 2025, contributed to the group’s struggles. Others noted the competitive K-pop industry, where smaller agencies often face challenges sustaining groups without strong domestic fandoms.

Achievements and Legacy

Weeekly achieved significant milestones during their career. Their debut EP We Are sold over 10,000 copies in eight days, and the Tag Me (@Me) music video reached 10 million views in a week. Their 2021 track After School became a viral hit, peaking at 155 on the Circle Digital Chart and gaining international popularity on platforms like YouTube and TikTok.

The group won six rookie awards in 2020, cementing their status as a promising act. They also participated in Mnet’s Queendom Puzzle in 2023, with Jihan, Zoa, Soojin, and Soeun showcasing their talents. Weeekly collaborated on projects like a VR animation game and served as ambassadors for events like the Bucheon International Animation Festival.

Their discography includes five mini-albums: We Are (2020), We Can (2020), We Play (2021), Play Game: Holiday (2021), and ColoRise (2023), along with singles like Good Day (Special Daileee) and Stranger. Their final EP, Bliss, featured the lead single Lights On, which fans now regard as a poignant farewell.

Members Share Emotional Messages

The members expressed deep emotions about the disbandment. Lee Soojin, the group’s leader, shared her mixed feelings on Weverse, apologizing to fans for the sudden news.

“I was very surprised and my heart was filled with mixed emotions. I feel so sorry for Daileee.”Lee Soojin

Jimin (likely referring to a member’s stage name or a typo for another member) and Jaehee also shared heartfelt messages, reflecting on their love for Weeekly and their pain over the news.

“As someone who loved Weeekly as much as Daileee and loved Daileee as much as Weeekly, I spent a long time in pain over this news. I didn’t want to keep you waiting anymore, and I wanted to make up for that wait with good news. But instead, we ended up hurting you, and I’m truly sorry.”Jimin
“It feels strange and upsetting that such a loving team is now connected to the word ‘disbandment.’ I still can’t believe it.”Jaehee

What Lies Ahead

While Weeekly has disbanded, the members are free to pursue individual careers. Fans remain hopeful that Lee Soojin, Monday, Park Soeun, Lee Jaehee, Jihan, and Zoa will continue in entertainment, whether as solo artists, actors, or in other fields. Due to copyright issues, they may not use the Weeekly name for future music releases.

The K-pop community continues to reflect on Weeekly’s legacy, celebrating their joyful music and vibrant performances. Fans are encouraged to stream Daileee and revisit the group’s discography to honor their five-year journey.
